If Mitsubishi has its way, dashboards and steering wheels of the future won’t require the skills of auto trimmers to keep them in top shape.
Why? Because they’re going entirely digital.
The automaker, which recently debuted its EMIRAI Concept car at the Tokyo Motor Show, is revamping its entire front display to pretty much operate like an iPhone.
In place of individual electronic components shelved in dashboard casing is a digital projection screen that features all of the car’s vitals – from speed to radio stations. Portions of that screen are also touch sensitive and display data in 3D.
What’s more, all of the features can be controlled from an Xbox-like steer wheel.
Mitsubishi says the technology could hit mass production in just 10 short years.
