Peoria Journal Star, a local Illinois newspaper, recently published a beautiful photo essay highlighting brothers Ernie and Leonard Cox of Ernie’s Fulton Top Co. in Peoria, IL.
Their shop – a family business – has been in operation for 98 years, making it one of the oldest continuously run auto upholstery shops in the United States.
To take a behind-the-scenes glimpse of what a normal day looks like for the two trimmers, visit “Brothers Keep Car Shop a Staple in the Community.”
No doubt, you’ll enjoy this beautiful photo essay.

how does one work in shorts how do you greet a customer in beach attire not professional sorry it doesnt work
Nadeem Muaddi says
I think shorts work alright so long as they’re uniformed – like the blue Dickies shorts sold to automotive professionals.
Vehicle cabins are like ovens during the summer. You can’t expect trimmers to bake under the hot sun.

With all due respect I have known Ernie and the Fulton Top crew for 20+ years and they greet customers with excellent work in a professional manner. Don’t let the “beach” attire fool you, Ernie is the owner and is 1st class when it comes to customer service. If I were to have a top put on my car I wouldn’t want a guy in a suit installing the top.

I only want to congratulate masters Earnie and Leonard for keeping up the job and enjoy of this beautiful art.
