Anyone have any luck with them? My grandfather has a few old cars that a stinky needless to say. Im looking to pick one up and really need to know if they work or not or if you have any experience on a certain brand.

If you dont know what an ozone machine is, its basically a box that you plug into the wall or set in a car, turn it on and it eliminates odors by passing the air over a filter and a light bulb. something something something.. lol its hard to describe.
price ranges can be from 100 bucks past 1000 bucks (depending on where or how big of the space is)
Hotels use them usually that run all the time.. they say it gives off a "ozone" smell

Interesting. I'm curious to know how well they do with stale smoke smell. I'm sure most of the problem smells are just embedded in the upholstery for the most part though.

Mine is like 6 years old bought it when katrina was happening. I'll have to find the name of the company.. Mine uses uv light. its pretty big.. size does matter...LOL I have made my money back on that thing 100 fold.. I think i paid like 1500 for it when i bought it.. i took all the logos off and serial numbers because all my dealers wanted one.. To this day i have to ask to use my own machine because its at my friends detail shop all the time. I still make money with it till this day when i let my dealer use it.. Research ozone. you have to understand how it works for it to be effective. I know one thing.. never go in a car that just been done.... headache in a half..... If there is mold in a car.. ozone is not air.. so when the car is full of ozone it kills it.. starves it... and it dies.. it does not get rid of it but kills it so it can grow any more.. kinda like putting the car in space for a few minutes.. whats living is dead....

From what I understand, it can give you a pretty nasty sore throat too. But if you keep it within safe levels, there's supposedly no lasting affect to your health.

My father-in-law had one that was used to remove smells from the house. I have used it in 2 cars to remove cig smoke, and that old dirt smell. This is what I got from it:

In Car with cig smoke:
Let it run in car for 5 days. The first 2 days the smell got worse... Like really bad. Almost took it out until my father-in-law told me that means it is working. Sure enough he was right around the 3rd day the smell decreased. 5th day smelt like a new car well close to it.

Same really for the dirt smell car. The only lasting issue with the cig car was when the A/C was turned on or heat the smell of smoke would come back. After talking with a few people they said you would have to replace the vent-work to eleminate that...

I will also say that the little metal blades in the Ozone unit turned black and had to be washed due to it bonding with airborn stuff. The rest of the smells should go away with oxidation.

From all the positive feedback on these machines and for a few of my grandfathers cars that have been in storage for over 20 years, i decided to buy one... on ebay! lol I bought a Rainbowair which is pretty much top of the line, bought a 400 to 500retail dollar machine for 50 bucks with free shipping.
i figured its worth a shot. Even if i can charge people around 50 to 75 bucks each use on this, im doing very well.

I've thought about getting one of these to add to the services I can provide...I don't know the first thing about buying one though...what brands are good and all that...

A shop that I used to work in used to use one quite often...one of the local GMs for one of the dealerships used to "use" a car for a year and then they would sell it as a demo at the end of the year and he'd get another car...well he smoked cigars like nobody's business..the cars would smell awful when they'd come in the shop...2 days closed up with the ozone machine and they'd smell like new...
