Welcome: The Hog Ring

February 10, 2011 By Nadeem Muaddi

Though the industry for aftermarket auto parts is flooded with cheap DIY upholstery kits, there has never been an adequate substitute for the high-quality craftsmanship of a professional auto trimmer.

Unlike mechanic and body shops, however, auto upholstery businesses aren’t easy to come by.

While the trade certainly isn’t dying, it is growing at a slow pace – which is understandable given the high level of artistry, skill and versatility needed to become a quality upholsterer.

As a result, the community of professional auto trimmers is small. Compared to other automotive trades, its also fairly insular and disconnected.

However, digital video and photography, combined with modern modes of telecommunication and social networking, provide new opportunities for the next generation of auto trimmers to not only connect, but grow and thrive.

The Hog Ring, the trade’s first (and, thus far, only) industry-wide blog, aims to do just that.

Here we will showcase designs, share tips and tricks of the trade, and discuss news that affects us all. Best of all, everyone is welcome and encouraged to contribute.

So let the blogging begin…

My girlfriend has been doing custom upholstery, custom boat covers, etc. in the Lake Arrowhead area for about 7 yrs. Shes been doing it on her own for all these yrs. and has been growing tired of all the hard work of the initial measuring and fitting of the product. Just way too many stairs. So we came to join her to help, any suggestions for winter, the slow period, and we need to organize the shop in her garage, no fun. but we are doing it. Thanks Looking for a little advice. Tina
