TopCar’s Porsche Panamera Stingray

November 1, 2011 By Nadeem Muaddi 9 Comments

Seeing as we’re all professional auto trimmers, why not hold a regular “round table” discussion on some of the more unique car interiors popping up in the industry? Sharing our opinions on the design and execution of one interior can help inspire new ones, signal growing trends and even make for some lively debate.

Let’s start with this limited-edition 2012 Porsche Panamera Stringray GTR- which, among other lavish interior upgrades, includes crocodile leather, as well as real-gold and Karelian Birch wood trim. TopCar Moscow made 25 of these babies – each selling for $567,850.

We want to hear from you. Check out the 10 interior photos we included and sound off . This is no holds barred!

I love it! The gold accents are beautiful. The color palette is one of a kind, I’ve never seen a wood gain like that paired with a white interior. And a diamond pleated floor and headliner, I can’t imagine how many hours were invested in this interior. The only thing I don’t get is why did they use alligator leather in a car called the stingray? Why not stingray leather?

I have to agree with most of your points. I love the wood – which apparently comes from a strain of European Birch that only grows in Finland and Russia. The gold accents are also beautiful, especially paired with white/cream upholstery.

You raise an excellent point about the crocodile leather that hadn’t dawned on me – why not use Stingray leather? Then again, I love how the crocodile’s texture contrasts the traditional leather on the seats. It’s subtle, but elegant.

I love the black dash as well. And the red seat belts? That’s ballsy – but for some reason works. It kind of throws sport vibe into the mix, no?

The only thing I have to disagree with you on is all the diamond pleating. Don’t get me wrong, the craftsmanship is to be commended. But diamond pleats all over the floor and headliner feels a bit overkill to me.

I agree Nadeem, I love the texture in the seats, and the wood trim is beautiful, but the diamond pleats especially on the floor is just too busy.

Here’s another comment left about this blog post in another upholstery forum:

kodydog: Now that’s a classy car. Priced at over 1/2 million it should be. Dream car for sure. Hay if I sold everything I owned and borrowed $500,000 I could get one.

But hay I know dis guy. High interest-short term. And if ya cant pay em back, all it’ll cost ya is two broken legs. I’m just sayin.

It’s a love/hate thing. LOVE the interior, but hate it being in a Porsche. That is, far and away, an absolutely gorgeous high-end KUSTOM interior. Put it in a chopped 49 Merc, or go funky with a Buick Riviera and you have one whopper of a great package. Putting it in a Porsche is nauseating.

Haha, why nauseating? Because it adds more pretentiousness to the already pretentious nameplate?

lol@ Nadeem. Don’t take my comments wrong. I am a HUGE Porsche fan. I love the marque. I am a Volkswagen owner and hope to one day be able to enter the throes of air-cooled Porsche ownership (wishful thinking). I just don’t equate a Porsche, or any sporting car, with diamond pleats and woodgrain. The two styles don’t easily mesh. So, as I said, love the interior, but not that combination. It seems to tarnish both.

You’ve got a great point. They’re both beautifully executed, but the combination in that particular car does look a bit gaudy. I can picture the Queen of England sitting in the back seat enjoying tea and crumpets. Hahaha.

The detail and craftsmanship are excelent!!!…softy parts of the crocodile hide have been used for the sides of bolsters, dashboard, console, etc. It looks to me a ‘classical design’ considering the combination of nice ‘wood look’, ‘golden door knobs’ and the ‘diamond pleats’…but in some way tries to give a ‘sporty appearance’.
Thanks again Nadeem for posting these interesting pictures and topics…very inspiring to us the upholsterers!!!…hoping some day to do something similar…of course we can!!!!!
