Installing Aftermarket Picnic Tables with Rau

May 6, 2013 By Naseem Muaddi

The Hog Ring - Auto Upholstery Community - Car Backseat Picnic Table

Nothing sets off a high-end, luxury interior quite like rear-seat picnic tables. You know the ones I’m talking about. They’re the fold-down tables mounted to the backs of front seats in cars you’d rather be chauffeured in than drive.

With stow-away picnic tables accessible on demand, rear-seat passengers can feel as comfortable in their cars as they do in their home offices. In this age of laptops, digital notebooks and tablets, they make working on the go simple and easy. (Skeptical? Check out Brabus’ Mercedes-Benz S-Class iBusiness)

While it’s ironic that on-board picnic tables were more common and popular before the dawn of mobile computers, customers can still choose to have them installed.

Of course, car owners looking to integrate the creature comfort into their cabins will have to take their vehicles to an auto trim shop that’s equipped with the proper knowledge and skills to do so – as installing picnic tables can prove quite daunting.

To understand what’s involved, watch this video of William Rau, the wood restoration and bespoke expert behind Rau Corp, explain how he retrofit an Audi A8 to have Rolls-Royce Corniche picnic tables.

Not a fan at all, the frame on the exterior makes it look super cheesy and cheap. It it were mounted flush it would look awesome!
