The Hidden Horrors of Vinyl Top Roof Rust

July 10, 2013 By Naseem Muaddi

Auto Upholstery - The Hog Ring - Vinyl Top Rust

“How much to slap a new vinyl top on my car?” Um… sometimes upholstery should be the least of your customers’ concerns. In situations like this, I’d probably recommend forgoing a new top for a whole new car.

What would you tell a customer who brought a car like this into your auto upholstery shop?

I tell the customer before I can give them an estimate they need to remove the old vinyl and fix the rust. The number one thing that a customer will argue with you is that his car has no rust. Every and I mean every car with a vinyl top needs to have the rust repaired.

I have made it my policy to only install vinyl tops on cars that have already been to the body shop.

Thats what the hell I’m talkin about!!! Balls!!! All u gotta do is grow some. No good shop would turn down the job. They explalin, charge, and get the work done (The correct way) to get the customer right, keep their reputation strong and their customer base expanding by word of mouth. Dumbest way to loose a client is by sending them away.
