Photo: Custom VW Jetta Engine Cover

September 26, 2013 By Nadeem Muaddi

Auto Upholstery - The Hog Ring - VW Jetta Engine Cover

Check out this custom engine cover designed by Tim Cardon of Velocity Upholstery in Langley, British Columbia. It matches the custom bra and cabin featured in his personal Volkswagen Jetta, which serves as a roving advertisement for his shop.

The above photo was shot by Art of Stance, a website dedicated to West Coast car culture and photography. To see more of their great work, as well as a full spread on Tim’s one-off Jetta, click here.

If you’ve designed custom engine covers, we want to see photos. Please post them in our Auto Upholstery Forum for other trimmers to browse and comment on.

I, being an employee of Volkswagen have posted this pic up at the company I’m at. I am surprised that’s its gotten a quite favorable response. Most Techs first look at it with an inquiring look and then start to realize, wow, what a pretty cool idea! I for one am realizing that there is definitely an untapped market here, especially for a hybrid carbon/fiber mixed with upholstery engine cover. However, many are interested to know how does the leather and/or vinyl standup to the engine compartment heat, and does it shrink/warp over time. Also what kind of vinyl is being used here if it is a vinyl/leather mix.

The picture is kind of tough to see the valve covers..but look closely. The customer didn’t have a clue how to cover his engine, so we came up with this.

Good execution of a terrible idea.
