Need Period-Correct Leather? See Hydes

December 19, 2017 By Nadeem Muaddi

The Hog Ring - Need Period Correct Leather

Auto upholstery shops that specialize in classic restoration work take note: Hydes Leather can custom dye and emboss leather for your next project using period-correct materials and techniques, ensuring every aspect of the build remains original.

Hydes Leather, North America’s leading source for OEM leathers, are renowned for their vast experience, knowledge and connections in the automotive leather industry. What’s more, they love the challenge of recreating and matching leather hides for antique and rare cars.

“At Hydes, one of our favorite things is custom dying. Whether it is to match the original leather, or to create a match for the paint, carpet, or other, our team of technicians do it right,” says owner Aaron Laithwaite.

“When restoring a classic automobile, whether it is to be concours judged or just for accurate period looks, the leather is a critical element that is often overlooked. If vegetable dyed leather is the period correct product, we’ll process with vegetable tannins and dyes. If a patent leather look is required, we’ll use the proper techniques to achieve it. If an exotic print was used, we’ll use our extensive resources in the field to locate an embossing plate to replicate the original look.”

Hydes Leather’s commitment to period-correct leather has attracted elite auto upholstery shops from across North America. Not surprisingly, their quality hides have been used to trim award-winning cars from SEMA to Pebble Beach. Browse their client gallery to see for yourself.

Of course, Hydes Leather also offers a long list of other industry-leading services — including custom perforation, embossing, etching, computerized stitching, skiving and weaving. They also carry an expansive line of Alcantara.
