Let’s Find Apprentices at the SEMA Show

October 9, 2018 By Fred Mattson

The Hog Ring - Let's Find Apprentices at the SEMA Show

One of the most challenging aspects of our business is finding qualified workers — a problem that’s largely due to the lack of available education in our craft. However, the 2018 SEMA Show provides us with an opportunity to start changing that.

One day before the show, SEMA will host a Student Career Day that’s expected to draw more than a thousand students interested in pursuing careers in the automotive aftermarket.

I will have a booth at the event, where I plan to hand out fliers and talk with attendees about the merits of our craft. My goal is to steer some of them into becoming apprentices at auto upholstery shops. Doing so is important because it ensures the longevity of our craft, and gives young people an opportunity to learn new skills they can use to make a living.

The Student Career Day will be held at the Westgate Resort & Casino in Las Vegas on October 29 from 1:00 p.m.–3:00 p.m.

If you’re planning to attend the 2018 SEMA Show, consider joining me in the booth. I’d also appreciate any suggestions on how to further this endeavor. After all, this is our craft and we must look to the next generation to keep it going. You can contact me here.

The 2018 SEMA Show will be held October 30 – November 2 in Las Vegas, Nevada. For details, visit SEMAShow.com.

PUI has offered a Camaro seat for display in the booth and CarTech books also has my back..

Thank you Hog Ring For being here as well!
