The Hog Ring - Trimmer Luis Aguilar Sr. Dies at 82

Trimmer Luis Aguilar Sr. of Las Cruces, New Mexico, has died at age 82.

Luis was born on August 25, 1941 in Irapuato, Guanajuato, Mexico. He moved with his family to Tlalnepantla, Mexico City, where he attended elementary school. However, he was pulled out after completing sixth grade so that he could work and help support his family.

His first job was with an accomplished upholsterer, who taught him the craft. He worked there until immigrating to the United States, where he became a citizen on November 21, 1985.

In the US, Luis worked in various automotive jobs, from auto mechanics to upholstery. He also owned several businesses in Los Angeles, California, before relocating his family to Sierra Vista, Arizona.

Eventually, he moved to Las Cruces, New Mexico, and opened an upholstery business were he repaired furniture and auto upholstery. “He was very meticulous with his upholstery work, and very professional, the result was perfect,” his obituary says.

In his free time, he was a member of St. Andrews Catholic Church, the League of United Latin American Citizens and Sister Cities International.

Sadly, Luis died on December 4, 2023. He is survived by his wife, Dorothy Aguilar; his first wife and the mother of his children, Elaine Sierra; his children Manuel “Manny” Rodriguez, Jesus “Jesse” Aguilar, Luis Aguilar, Jr., Sergio Aguilar, Carlos Aguilar, Ann McCormick, Lilian Aguilar and Carolyn Aguilar. Luis also leaves behind several nieces, nephews, grandchildren, great grandchildren and extended family members.

They will remember Luis “for his outgoing and caring personality, and finally for his love of people,” his obituary says.

May he Rest in Peace.
