Stitches Custom Upholstery Wins NC Auto Interior of the Year!

The Hog Ring - Stitches Custom Upholstery Wins 2023 NC Auto Interior of the Year

Congratulations to Stitches Custom Upholstery in Poulsbo, Washington, for winning the 2023 NC Auto Interior of the Year Award!

Shop owner Tony Miller oversaw the creation of a stunning interior for his client’s 1966 Chevrolet Chevelle. Every inch of this muscle car’s interior is custom, from its gorgeous one-piece headliner to its jaw-dropping door panels.

Among our favorite features are the Chevelle’s seats, which are truly unique. The team built a custom frame for the rear seat and modified the frame for the front seats. They carved new foam and bolsters, then wrapped the seats in gorgeous Maserati leather and Alcantara. The inserts are particularly innovative, with laser-etched and heat-pressed hexagons. The seats are topped off with custom trim emblems.

Of course, the design carries over to the Chevelle’s hand-crafted door panels, which also feature laser-cut acrylic grills. And we certainly can’t overlook the custom-built center console and dash top. Every direction you turn, this Chevelle has something amazing going on.

For their effort, Stitches Custom Upholstery takes the top prize: a massive trophy to display in their shop, SK2019 NC Leather Skiver complete with a servo motor workstation and vacuum system, a feature in The Hog Ring, and ultimate bragging rights.

“Tony and his team just blew us away. That interior stands up against any interior produced in 2023,” said Mal Maher, CEO of NC Carpet Binding & Equipment.

NC established the annual contest in 2018 to recognize, honor and encourage talent and innovation in our craft. It’s the only industry award voted on by a panel of peers.

This year’s judges included Stitchcraft Interiors, Cato’s Custom Upholstery, Interiors by Shannon, Sewn Tight Interiors, Bux Customs, Customs by Vos, DJ Designs, Stitchwurx, Brent Parker Motor Trimming, RMD Garage, Budy Built, NC Carpet Binding & Equipment and The Hog Ring.

The only other five shops to win this prestigious award are DJ Designs in 2018, Stitchwurx in 2019, Brent Parker Motor Trimming in 2020, RMD Garage in 2021 and young guns winner Budy Built in 2022.

“This title puts Stitches Custom Upholstery in rarified company,” said Maher. “Stitches Custom Upholstery entered in 2021 and finished runner up. Tony and his crew proved their metal by coming back to take what they thought was theirs and they succeeded. Year after year they produce elite interior builds and I’m sure they’ll find a way to trump this one in 2024. It’s just their way.”
