This Vegan Leather Perfume Doesn’t Smell Like Leather

September 11, 2024 By Nadeem

The Hog Ring - This Vegan Leather Perfume Doesn't Smell Like Leather

What does vegan leather perfume smell like? Anything but leather, of course.

Lush, the popular cosmetics retailer, has just introduced a new fragrance called “Vegan Leather Jacket” that was inspired by a line in The Byrds’ song “Gunga Din.”

The line states: “Have breakfast with me mamma, I hope they’ll let us in, I’ve got a leather jacket on, I know that it’s a sin.”

According to Lush, the line made co-founder and perfumer Mark Constantine think that the company needed a 100% vegan fragrance, and so he used cloves, tonic and tobacco absolute to make it.

That’s right, it smells like a some smokey dude sitting at the bar, but decisively not leather.

How could it? Vegan leather is the industry’s biggest misnomer.

Still, if you like the scent of cloves and tobacco, you’ll be happy to learn “Vegan Leather Jacket” is getting rave reviews. Perfume critic Luca Turin says: “Vegan Leather Jacket is probably Lush’s greatest work since Breath of God and a masterpiece for the ages.”

Whatever.
