Why is this Volkswagen Seat Wearing a Jacket?

September 19, 2024 By Nadeem

The Hog Ring - Why is this Volkswagen Seat Wearing a Jacket

The Volkswagen ID.3 GTX Fire + Ice just debuted with the most interesting upholstery — its seats look like they’re wearing down jackets.

Developed in collaboration with Bogner, the Munich-based luxury sports fashion brand, the interior is divided into two color schemes: flaming red for “fire” and ice blue for “ice.”

That’s not all, the front seat backs are trimmed in quilted fabric that resembles the design of Bogner’s popular down jackets, including zippers. If you open them, they reveal original fabric from the VW Golf Fire + Ice, which debuted in the 1990s and was also designed in partnership with Bogner.

“The seats are by far the coolest thing about the interior since the rest is standard ID.3 affair: a big tablet sticking out from the dashboard and minimal traditional switchgear,” says Motor 1. We agree, but wonder how badly those zippers will burn on a hot day.

Unfortunately, we’re not likely to find out. The ID.3 GTX Fire + Ice isn’t headed to production. It’s just a one-off model created for promotional purposes.

Still, that seat design — as weird as it is — has to be the most unique upholstery element we’ve seen from an automaker in a while.
