LEATHER CRAFT: Fire-Tested, Airbag-Ready and Ready for You to Install

May 26, 2025 By Naseem Muaddi

The Hog Ring - Leather Craft Fire-Tested, Airbag-Ready and Ready for You to Install

If you’ve been searching for an interior upholstery solution that checks every box — style, safety and solid performance — LEATHER CRAFT just gave you one more reason to take a closer look.

In a recent round of rigorous testing, LEATHER CRAFT’s replacement leather and vinyl seating materials passed (and in some cases, surpassed) key federal safety standards, including FMVSS 302 for flammability and FMVSS 208 for airbag deployment.

The results reinforce LEATHER CRAFT’s commitment to quality and safety in vehicle upholstery. Let’s break it down…

Flammability Testing

During a flammability test at MGA Research, materials had to burn at a rate slower than 4 inches per minute. Sounds simple enough—but here’s where it gets impressive: two of LEATHER CRAFT’s samples didn’t even ignite. That’s right, no flames, no problem. Other samples were rated “Self-Extinguishing,” meaning the fire basically gave up trying to spread. Translation: zero burn rate. That’s about as safe as it gets.

Airbag Deployment Testing

And then there’s the airbag deployment test, where materials are checked to make sure they won’t interfere with airbag performance in a crash. LEATHER CRAFT’s interior upholstery passed with flying colors, showing strong performance in both frontal and side-impact scenarios. If you’re installing interior upholstery in modern vehicles with advanced safety features, this is the kind of reassurance you want.

Here’s why that matters

Most customers don’t just want a good-looking interior — they want peace of mind. When you can confidently tell them that your materials have been tested for safety and exceed federal standards, you’re not just offering an upgrade, you’re offering a value-added service. It’s a powerful differentiator that can help your shop stand out, build trust, and attract more business.

Bottom line

LEATHER CRAFT isn’t just making great-looking interior upholstery, they’re making them smart and safety-compliant too. If your upholstery shop is focused on quality work (and we know it is), this is the kind of upgrade your customers will thank you for.
