Trimmer John Elvin Maddux of Mansfield, Missouri, has died at age 85.
John Elvin was born in Plad on September 23, 1939, where he grew up working on the family farm alongside his siblings.
After graduating from high school in 1957, John Elvin owned and operated an auto trim and upholstery shop and worked as an electrician. He would work days at his upholstery shop and evenings doing electrical work at the railroad.
In his time off, he enjoyed spending time with his wife and children, playing the fiddle, hunting and growing a huge garden.
“If jewels in your crown are also measured in acts of service, gallons of homemade ice cream served, donations to people in need, miles driven in the family suburban, baseball /softball games attended, phone calls made just to check in, and the numbers of babies that instantly fell asleep on his warm chest, then his crown is full,” his obituary says.
Sadly, John Elvin died on May 25, 2025 with his family nearby.
He is survived by his wife, Janice; children, Jamie Maddux-Furr, Mindy Maddux, Justin Maddux and Lisa Irvine; grandchildren, Carson Key, Dustin Irvine and Alissa Irvine; sister, Patty Smith; brother, Louis Maddux; and several nieces, nephews, and other relatives and friends.
May he Rest in Peace.
