Infiniti says its all-new TailorFit seating material is treated with a special protectant that stops everything from coffee to blue jeans from staining white upholstery.
TailorFit is a synthetic material that supposedly looks and feels just like Nappa leather, but is made from 65% recycled textiles. Infiniti says it’s more durable and softer to the touch than tradition imitation leathers.
But its biggest claim is that TailorFit is highly resistant to staining. “Basically everywhere on the seat, we have a coating that resists and deters from staining, not only for denim dye transfer, but for other common consumer concerns like coffee or other things that you may spill on your seat,” Evan Frank, a seat engineering manager at Infiniti, told Design News.
“This coating basically acts as, almost like a wax that you’d put on the exterior of your car,” he added. “It helps with cleanability. With some material, you have what we call a grain on the A surface of the material. A lot of times, that grain has pores, just like your exterior vehicle has pores and your skin has pores. This coating helps minimize the pores on the seating surface.”
Light color upholstery is particularly susceptible to staining — especially from people wearing jeans. “Everyone wears blue jeans, so, over time, you see the seat start to turn blue, especially if you have darker jeans, when there’s more dye in the jeans,” Frank said.
But that’s not the case for the 2026 Infiniti QX60 Autograph’s TailorFit upholstery. “We implemented this [protectant] in order to improve the quality of our seats, as well as, obviously, improve the quality of the vehicle and the interior, so over time, you don’t end up with a blue seat by the time you return your car,” he said.
Of course, there’s only one way to substantiate these claims. We need to rub a pair of jeans and dump a cup of coffee on Infiniti’s seats. Anyone with a QX60 Autograph want to let us try?
