
Trim shop owner Barbara Jean Swartz of Amissville, Virginia, has died at age 69.
Barbara was born on April 7, 1956 and raised on a family farm in Centreville.
For more than 40 years, Barbara owned and managed Don Elkins Auto Upholstery with her life-long business partner Don Elkins. The pair were known as “The Upholstery Gods” in their community for their outstanding upholstery work, which was featured in car shows throughout Virginia, Maryland and Washington, D.C.
“Her beauty was reflected in her flower gardens and her love of landscape design. However, her greatest love was for her daughter Sheryl and her two dogs, Studley and Teshchi A.K.A. ‘The Muppets,'” her obituary says.
“She was a loving and kind mother, sister and a wonderful amazing aunt with such a free spirit and entertaining personality. She was a friend to many and will be missed, yet will live on through all who know and love her.”
Sadly, Barbara died on November 14, 2025. She is survived by her daughter, Sheryl Lynn Cubbage; sister, Betty J. Kline; niece, Dana Hensley; two great nephews, Ethan and Wyatt Hensley and her two fur babies.
