Fire ripped through an upholstery shop in Nakhon Sawan, Thailand, last week, leaving the building nearly destroyed — but not before firefighters pulled off a dramatic rescue… of a cat.
According to the Bangkok Post, the blaze broke out around 9:30 a.m. inside a single-story building that housed an upholstery workshop. The shop owner said he first heard an explosion in the hallway, where rubber adhesive and thinner were stored, before flames spread fast.
Crews battled the inferno for roughly 30 minutes, but not before it gutted about 90% of the property. In the middle of it all, firefighters discovered the owner’s tabby cat, trapped and struggling to breathe from smoke inhalation.
They immediately sprang into action, giving the little guy oxygen and cooling it with water until it started breathing normally again. Sadly, two other cats that lived in the shop are still missing.
Police are investigating the cause of the fire, but all signs point to the chemical storage area where the explosion was first heard.
It’s a sobering reminder of how dangerous upholstery shops can be when flammable materials like glue and thinner aren’t stored safely. Thankfully, at least one furry friend lived to tell the tale.
