G.A.H.H’s Revolutionary Drop Top

July 25, 2011 By Naseem Muaddi

If your auto trim shop is anything like mine, then you’re constantly replacing convertible tops because of separated window seals. You know what I’m talking about – when the bonding between a canvas top and glass window detaches. Until now, there was very little you could do about it.

With cars that sport two-piece tops, like the Ford Mustang and Toyota Sebring, you can get away with just replacing the window. But with cars that feature one-piece tops, like the Chevy Corvette and Mitsubishi Eclipse, you can’t.

Most customers are shocked to hear this.  They find it hard to believe that the canvas can’t be resealed to the glass. But you know as well as I do that if the seal between the canvas and glass is completely separated, there’s no amount of silicone that can hold it together – especially if the top is going to be folded up and down throughout the summer.

For years, trim shops and convertible-top manufacturers have accepted the heat seal as the standard, and just dealt with the fact that they eventually come apart.

But not any more.

G.A.H.H.  Automotive of Hollywood, California recently launched the new UltraMaxx Window Bonding System – an innovation that I believe will revolutionize the industry.

Thousands of hours of research and development have led to a bonding system that eliminates the heat seal altogether. In fact, it even does away with unsightly binding, piping, and press marks surrounding the glass. The result is a top that’s a lot smoother than traditional drop tops, and altogether attractive.

So how does it work? G.A.H.H. explains that the bond between glass and canvas is formed by  ”wrapping the topping around an internal support structure and adhering the glass to the resulting assembly with a special bonding agent developed specifically for this purpose.”

G.A.H.H. says that their new seal virtually eliminates any chance of separation or leaking.  They’re so confident in the UltraMaxx Window Bonding System that they even offer a lifetime warranty on all of their glass windows.

I believe it.

Last week I had the pleasure of installing an UltraMaxx top on a 2001 Mitsubishi Eclipse and was pleasantly surprised.  The top fit like a glove, and the rear glass looked much nicer without the factory binding around the edges.

I definitely recommend that auto trimmers check out this cool, new product.
