Rolls-Royce just built a one-off Phantom inspired by lace. Yes — actual lace. The kind you’d find on a handcrafted couture gown.
Called the Phantom Dentelle, this commission was created by Rolls-Royce’s Private Office in Dubai as a gift from a Middle Eastern client to their father. Every detail of the car is impressive, but the interior is nothing short of art.
The centerpiece is the Phantom’s Gallery — a glass panel that spans the dashboard and is designed to showcase bespoke artwork. In this case, Rolls-Royce’s design team recreated the texture and shimmer of lace using embroidery. More than 160,000 stitches were applied using eight different techniques, with threads in Rose Gold, Sunrise, and Oatmeal to give the piece depth and movement. A fine mesh base, satin-stitched floral shapes, and raised accents mimic the soft luster of pearls. It’s an incredible amount of work for something most people will never touch.
That same lace-inspired embroidery continues between the rear seats in the Waterfall section, adding another 70,000 stitches. Even the speaker grilles are finished in Rose Gold to match. The cabin is trimmed in Sunrise and Grace White leather, with embroidered RR monograms on the headrests and crisp Piano White veneer throughout.
The exterior was given just as much attention. It wears a two-tone finish: Crystal over Arctic White on the lower body and Crystal over Palais Nemasker Dawn — a color reserved exclusively for this client — on top. A double coachline in Sunrise ends with a hand-painted leafy branch motif, tying the outside back to the lacework inside.
The car rides on 22-inch polished disc wheels with Arctic White pinstripes. The Spirit of Ecstasy is finished in Rose Gold — a perfect match for the interior threadwork and other trim details, including the engraved treadplates.
“This stunning Phantom Dentelle… is an homage to the exquisite handmade lace used in some of the world’s leading haute couture ateliers,” Michelle Lusby, designer at Rolls-Royce Private Office Dubai, said in a news release.
For trimmers and upholsterers, the Phantom Dentelle is a reminder of what’s possible when craftsmanship meets creativity. It proves that even something as traditional as lace can feel modern and unexpected — when executed with precision and imagination.
Sometimes, all it takes is a piece of fabric to inspire something extraordinary.
