Milwaukee Sewing Machine in West Allis, Wisconsin, is closing after nearly 80 years in business.
The shop on Greenfield Avenue was founded in 1946 by the grandfather and uncle of current owner Don Minch. His father passed it onto him. But after decades in business, it will shut its doors for the last time in May of 2024.
“After all these years, my wife and I decided that it is time,” Don told Fox6. “Business is slowing down, it’s not as big of a thing anymore.”
The shop, which sells and repairs industrial and household sewing machines, plans to unload its entire inventory in one final sale.
Don said he always enjoyed repairing sewing machines more than selling them, and will likely continue to take on odd jobs in retirement.
“It’s been a great small business, which really grew into a larger business,” he said. “I never thought I was going to own Milwaukee Sewing Machine. I thought I was going to work there for the rest of my life.”
We wish Don a healthy, happy and productive retirement.
