Electron Warns Against ‘Brown Box Tops’

August 10, 2018 By Naseem Muaddi

This month, Electron Top mailed a flier to all of its customers asking: “Who do you want to trust your reputation to?”

In this new age of convertible top sales — where people can buy inferior, off-brand tops online for a fraction of the price — it’s a question worth pondering. Especially if your shop has experienced an uptick in the number of customers who bring in their own tops for installation.

Electron Top warns: “You can charge more money for labor, not warrantee your work, have your customer sign a disclaimer … but … your reputation is still at risk when you install a brown box top.”

Electron Top is not just a leading manufacturer of quality convertible tops, they’re also a third-generation, family-owned business that puts their hearts and souls into everything they do. They’re honest, fair, loyal and transparent about their business practices.

In fact, Electron Top is one of the few convertible top manufacturers in our industry that manufactures its products in the USA and does not sell directly to the public, so as to protect small, independent auto upholstery shops.

Of course, convertible tops aren’t all that Electron Top sells. Turn to page 17 in their 2018 Catalog (which you can read online by clicking here) for a full list of products they carry — from cleaners to shears, thread and even zippers.

To learn more about Electron Top‘s quality convertible tops or to set up a business account, visit ElectronTop.com or call (800) 221-4476.

I wont even install a top that isnt name brand. All trimmers should do the same and deadend that noname rubbish. It just isnt worth anyones time to get 3/4s into an install, to find that there is nothing you can do to get the thing to fit. How can you even charge for that?

Electron is definitely one of the better tops out there but they should learn how to form a proper sentence before using propaganda. The word “warrantee” is a person to whom a warranty is given. A “warranty” is a guarantee given to a purchaser stating that a product will meet certain requirements during a given time. Both of these words are nouns. The verb form would be to warrant something or guarantee it. I have a high school education and this sticks out like a sore thumb.

In an attempt to promote their product they made themselves look stupid. It seems that negative advertisement bit them in the rear end. They put this card in every box.

Just for an example, 15 or so yrs ago an acquaintance of mine supplied a sort of noname top for his 68 cutlass. By the time I start getting some tension at the front, I soon realized the top was physically too narrow across the middle and any rain would just drain into the frame channels lol.
One small supplier of tops I tried, swore that he had OE patterns for a MB 500sl, so I tried one out.
    It was just “ok”
Now I just stick to manufacturer’s that I know, it just makes my life way easier.
Don’t even get me started about ebay E36 BMW back windows either lol.
